Colon Therapy

Colon Therapy, often referred to as colon irrigation, colonic, colon hydrotherapy or high enemas, is an ancient form of cleansing the colon with water.  It is a safe, effective method of removing accumulated waste from the large intestine (colon) without the use of drugs.  By introducing purified, filtered body-temperature water into the colon, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis (muscle contraction). Today’s modern technology promotes both the safety and sanitation of this popular cleansing practice.

Colonics are administered by colonic hygienists or colon therapists who use a disposable speculum entered into the rectum to gently enter body-temperature, purified, filtered water into the colon. After filling the colon with water, the therapist may massage the abdomen to facilitate the removal of waste material from the colon wall, then fluid and waste are carried out of the body through a disposable tube connected to the end of the speculum. The procedure is generally repeated several times during the session, and the average session lasts from 45 to 60 minutes.

As far back as the ancient Egyptians, enemas and other "cleansing rituals" were commonly used to rid the body of toxic waste products believed to cause disease and death. In the 19th century, health enthusiasts described the large intestine as a sewage system, and claimed stagnation caused toxins to form and be absorbed by the body, which led to the theory of "autointoxication." Laxatives, purges, and enemas were routinely recommended to prevent the accumulation of waste.

Colon therapy became very popular in the United States in the 1920s and 1930s, when irrigation machines were commonly found in hospitals and physicians’ offices. Although the procedure became less popular when advances in conventional medicine did not support its founding theory, colon therapy has recently shown an increase in popularity.

Toxic bowels can be the source of many health problems.  Through osmosis, colon hydrotherapy removes toxicity from the whole body, having the potential to rejuvenate every cell of the body.  By decreasing the concentration of toxicity in the colon, the body is able to remove waste and toxicity naturally through the liver and the colon instead of re-circulating the undesirable chemicals through the blood stream to deposit into or excrete from other parts of the body.

A colonic session cleanses and hydrates the colon, exercises the colon muscles, stimulates reflex points and may even reshape prolapsed or spasmodic conditions in the colon.  In addition, it helps to release toxins, cleanse the blood, empower the immune system and restore the PH balance in the body, as well as re-hydrate the whole body.

Who can benefit from a Colonic?

You may wish to consult with our colonic staff if you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed below. The effects of cleaning out the colon of accumulated waste material allow the body to function more efficiently with little or no symptoms of disease.  The body gives us signs that all is not well by these “uncomfortable” symptoms!

Constipation / Diarrhea

Abnormal Body Odor / Bad Breath

Headaches / Allergies

Indigestion / Malaise / Onset of cold or fever

Irritable Bowel / Insomnia

Fatigue / Candida

Fibromyalgia / Gout / RA symptoms

Acne / Skin eruptions / Darkening of eye color/ Iris darkening

Lower Back Pain / Depression / Irritability

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions will vary with each individual and their health goals.  Following your consultation, you and your therapist will discuss a recommended number of sessions needed for you to obtain your health goals.

Would you like to feel healthier?

Would you like to alleviate constipation?

Would you like beautiful, healthy, youthful skin?

Would you like to remove toxic waste from your body?

Would you like to increase your absorption of nutrients from your body?

Functions of the Colon:

The colon is a tube approximately five feet long and 2 1/2 inches in diameter. A healthy colon has uniform size and tone. It extends from the cecum, where it joins the small intestine, up and across the abdominal cavity, then down the left side of the body until it reaches the sigmoid and rectum. The three main functions of the colon are:

The final digestion of our food

The elimination of digestive residue

The discharge of toxins and wastes from our body

Prevention vs. Remediation

The desire for good health is something we all share. We spend countless thousands of dollars treating the symptoms of disease and a portion of our income to health insurance to cover our expenses for cancer, heart disease, etc., in the event our bodies should succumb to these diseases. Yet, very little is invested in the prevention of disease which costs far less then the treatment. One example of this is cancer of the colon. We don't hear much about it, yet it is second only to heart disease as the most common cause of death in the United States.

While few would argue the importance our diet plays in our health, the removal of toxic waste from our bodies is important, too. You see, good health is as much a function of how well we eliminate wastes from our bodies as how well we eat.

When the colon is clean and functioning normally, we experience better health and well-being. When the colon is congested with stagnating wastes, toxic poisons back up into our system and pollute the inner environment. This is called autointoxication which literally means "self-poisoning."

Most people in western society have some kind of congestion in their colon. Congestion is caused by stress, refined foods and sugars, and emotional turbulence. When congestion occurs, food ingested on one day may take as many as four or five days to be excreted through the colon. During that transit time, wastes are reabsorbed by the body and recirculated through the blood stream. This is the primary cause of autointoxication.

All of the body's tissues are affected by autointoxication. The list below shows some of the impacts on our well-being and the organs affected by a congested, toxic colon:

A toxic colon can lead to imbalance of the organ systems and the following symptoms:

Nervous System ……………… Irritability, Depression
Heart …………………………… Anxiety, Hypersensitivity, Crying/weepiness
Stomach ……………………….. Abdominal Bloat, Foul Breath, Bleeding Gums
Lung(s)………………………….. Shoulder pain, Sadness, Fatigue, Skin eruptions
Liver …………………….………. Weight Gain, Age Spots, Gallstones, Indigestion

There are many contributing factors to autointoxication from a toxic bowel. Improper diet, insufficient exercise, stress, overeating and ignoring the "call of nature" can all lead to bowel problems. These reasons are why thousands of people each year choose colonic irrigation as a safe, inexpensive way to improve and maintain good health.
